One-star services to aim at targets

One-star social services departments are to be given targets to
improve their performance by the Commission for Social Care
Inspection.

The CSCI would be putting a greater emphasis on the 40 departments
that received a single star last week, said its chief inspector
David Behan. “Some have become stuck and need more help and a push
to improve.”

A CSCI spokesperson added: “We will want to set targets for
improvement. It is about improving outcomes for users, not
capacity.

“With one-star councils, we will ensure there is a dialogue with
our business relationship managers about those areas where
improvements in outcomes are required.”

Zero-star councils are already monitored monthly and have to
produce performance action plans to show how they intend to
improve.
