Discrimination bill introduced in Lords

The Disability Discrimination Bill was introduced to the House of
Lords last week just days after being announced in the Queen’s
speech.

The Disability Rights Commission welcomed the bill but expressed
concern that it does not contain measures to make landlords agree
to adaptations to accommodation.

DRC chair Bert Massie said that, without an amendment to ensure
consent to adaptations could not be unreasonably refused, thousands
of disabled people would continue to live in unsuitable
accommodation.

The bill includes recommendations resulting from the scrutiny of
the draft bill earlier this year.
