Community Care Award winners announced

Community Care is pleased to announce the winners of the Community Care Awards 2004.

Our awards celebrate and reward the work of social care professionals across the UK and highlight the positive work you do every day.

The winners of the 10 categories were announced at the ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London. Each category winner was awarded a cheque for £5,000.

Drugs and Alcohol category winner, The Bridging the Gap Project: Alcohol and Drug Services, was judged to be the overall winner and received an additional £8,000.

Bridging the Gap is an innovative pilot project that uses the experiences of former drug and alcohol users, and those of their family and friends, to help treat current drug and alcohol service users in Tameside, near Manchester. The project offers a six-month part-time training course to 25 ex- users to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to become drug and alcohol support workers. Seventeen students from the first course have found work in the field.
