Code of Practice: On the recruitment, assessment, approval, training and support of foster carers in Scotland

CODE OF PRACTICE: ON THE RECRUITMENT, ASSESSMENT,
APPROVAL, TRAINING AND SUPPORT OF FOSTER CARERS IN
SCOTLAND

The Fostering Network

ISBN 1897869479, free

Star Rating: 4/5

This is a timely publication following the introduction of UK
national standards for fostering and the national care standards in
Scotland, writes Fiona Power.

Giving clear guidance on issues facing a modern fostering
service the code provides a handy reference for carers and
professionals.

The information is divided into six easily referenced sections
with particularly useful advice about supporting foster carers.

The document is put together in a ring-plan folder which means
information can be easily updated and amended. The code has been
especially adapted for Scotland. It should help the drive to raise
standards consistently across the country in a service which has in
the past often lacked the recognition and high profile it
deserves.

Fiona Power is children’s services adviser with Fife
Council.
