MPs are urging the government not to discriminate against Wales
for issuing fewer antisocial behaviour orders than England.
A report by the Commons’ Welsh affairs committee backs the
approach taken by councils, youth offending teams and police in
Wales of tackling a person’s antisocial behaviour. Wales has issued
just 144 Asbos compared to 3,538 in England.
But the committee said that in the absence of other ways of
measuring success in tackling antisocial behaviour, it was
concerned the government would use the number of Asbos issued as
its yardstick.
“We look to the Westminister government to promote a message
that the number of Asbos should be considered with other measures
tackling poor behaviour,” the report said.
