Barnardo’s chief executive Roger Singleton is
to retire in December.  He joined the children’s charity in 1974 as
deputy director of child care and became chief executive in
1984.

The first director of adult social services at Islington Council
in London is Gwen Ovshinsky, previously director
of strategy and commissioning in a joint post for Islington social
services and Islington primary care trust.

Julie Mellor, chair of the Equal Opportunities
Commission, is also to chair the board of campaigning charity
Fathers Direct, Mellor wants fathers to receive well paid paternity
leave and more opportunities to share child care.

Trafford Council’s new chief executive is David
McNulty
, now executive director at Walsall Council.  He
used to be a teacher and has also worked in the voluntary
sector.

David Reed has joined the board of trustees at
disability charity Leonard Cheshire, with specific responsibility
for oversight of communications.  He recently retired as director
of corporate affairs at hospitality company Whitbread.
