New qualification for centre leaders

The first professional qualification for leaders and deputy
leaders of children’s centres is to be introduced nationally.

More than 400 fully funded places will be available on the
National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership
course starting in September.

The course is open to leaders of early excellence centres and
early years services in schools as well children’s centre
heads.

Run by the National College for School Leadership, it will
prepare managers for work in multi-agency early years settings.
Children’s centres combine child care, education, health and social
services.

The government is planning to have 2,500 centres by 2008.
