Book claims service users still outsiders

Mental health services have undergone a revolution over the past
20 years but the relationship between service users and workers
still needs a fundamental change, according to a new book.

It says one of the biggest changes since the closure of the old
long-stay hospitals has been the development of the service user
movement.

But the book’s editor, Andy Bell, said: “What we’ve not done is
bring people with mental health problems into the community
meaningfully.”
