Employers should “redouble their efforts” to recruit talented
and skilled disabled people Anne McGuire, the work and pensions
minister, said today, writes Clare
Jerrom.
In her first speech as minister for disabled people, McGuire
told the TUC’s Disability Conference in London that the time had
come for employers and the government to pool their efforts to end
exclusion from the workplace for disabled people.
“More employers are realising there’s a compelling business case
for employing disabled people,” she said. “It isn’t just an ethical
responsibility, it’s a business imperative.”
The government recently brought in changes to the Disability
Discrimination Act 1995 to ensure that no employer can reasonably
discriminate against disabled employees or jobseekers.
