Tagging in wards to combat abductions

New-born babies in a Kent hospital are being electronically tagged
to prevent them being abducted from maternity wards.

Medway Maritime Hospital is one of the first to use the system and
installed it last week.

The system uses an electronic tag attached to the baby’s ankle,
allowing the whereabouts of the baby to be monitored on a control
panel.

Alarms sound and doors are sealed if the child is taken outside the
maternity area.
