Temporary workers -including social care staff – will need to pay
and apply for a new Criminal Records Bureau check each time they
register with a different agency, if the government gets its
way.
It is proposing to end the rule allowing Criminal Records Bureau
clearance to be portable.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation, representing
recruitment agencies, has warned this will lead to increased costs
and delays.
Tom Hadley, the confederation’s director of external relations,
says the change would have a “profound effect” on the recruitment
industry’s ability to respond to demand, which in turn would have
an impact on local authorities.
The confederation is lobbying the Home Office and CRB to drop the
proposal.
