Shops targeted by ‘hoodie’ protest

A group of “hoodie” -clad young people gathered outside a shopping
centre last week to protest against its ban on the garment.

About 60 people took part in the protest at London’s Elephant and
Castle shopping centre, organised by Respect Youth – the young
people’s branch of MP George Galloway’s Respect party.

The centre banned hooded-tops in mid-May arguing that they made
people difficult to identify on CCTV.

Kate Connolly, one of the organisers of the protest and a member of
Respect Youth, said the decision came in the context of government
policies that criminalised young people unnecessarily.
