Big Lottery Fund

Launched on 1 June 2004, it was created from the merger of the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund. The aim was to simplified the lottery and do away with overlap. But more than this, it was intended that the new agency should develop new approaches to the way it would work with organisations which it funds.

The Big Lottery continues to fund charities, the voluntary sector, and health, education and the environment but also took on the Millennium Commission’s funding of large-scale regeneration projects.
