Book review: Governance Stories – A Practical Guide to Setting up your Management Committee and Sustaining its Work

GOVERNANCE STORIES – A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO SETTING UP YOUR
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE AND SUSTAINING ITS WORK

ISBN 1903855632, £22.95

STAR RATING: 4/5

This is a really useful guide both for those setting up a
management committee or those running or working with them,
writes Kevin Williams.

Written in an easy style with case examples made what could have
been a dry subject come alive. Following the three case studies
through their experiences, the book also includes highly useful
policies and advice on the vast range of areas that management
committees have to consider.

The book is laid out in five sections: an introduction and a brief
history of voluntary organisations; the management committee from
establishment to the end with everything in between, and the role
of the individual on the committee. The book then looks at some of
the difficulties that may arise as well as the joys. It finishes
with a useful list of references and resources.

A helpful guide, then, for those looking to set up a management
committee or a useful reference for those already involved.

Kevin Williams is chief executive officer, The Adolescent
and Children’s Trust
