The NHS’s new clinical director for children says she will
look at how to improve the health of looked-after children,
writes Amy Taylor.
Sheila Shribman’s appointment to the role, previously held
by England’s children’s commissioner, Al Aynsley-Green,
was announced this week. She is currently medical director at
Northampton General NHS Trust and registrar for the Royal College
of Paediatrics and Child Health, and will take up her new job in
December.
As well as her focus on looked-after children, Shribman will
oversee implementation of the Children’s National Service
Framework.
She also wants to develop links with the Department for
Education and Skills and look at the health benefits of Sure
Start.
