An Angolan detainee is understood to have committed suicide last
week at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre, where his son was
also being detained.
It is believed that Manuel Bravo and his 13-year-old son, Antonio,
were taken to the centre on 14 September and he took his life the
next day, when they were due to be removed from the country.
The prisons and probation ombudsman Stephen Shaw has started an
inquiry into the death.
Antonio has been taken out of Yarl’s Wood and is in the care of
Bedfordshire social services.
