Parents will soon be offered discount holidays outside term times
under a scheme, backed by ministers including education secretary
Ruth Kelly, designed to prevent children missing school.
Every Lesson Counts, which will be launched in November, is a joint
initiative between the government and the travel industry.
Travel companies will offer parents discounts and other incentives
such as free child places to encourage them to go away when schools
are closed.
Many parents take their children away during term time because
prices shoot up during the school holidays.
