Hutton to review benefit reforms

Work and pensions secretary John Hutton is to re-examine the government’s proposed housing benefit reforms.

A scheme to replace the benefit with a local housing allowance, which pays a set sum depending on household size, is being piloted in 18 areas.

But a Department for Work and Pensions spokesperson said Hutton was reviewing how much the reform would cost before deciding how to proceed in the new year.
