Anne Williams, the Association of Directors of Social Services’ resources committee co-chair, has been elected as the ADSS’s next vice-president.
This means Williams, adult services director at Salford Council, is likely to become president of an organisation representing only adult care leaders next October, following the expected creation next year of a body solely for children’s services directors.
She will succeed John Coughlan as vice-president when the Hampshire children’s services director becomes president this October, and will effectively lead the ADSS’s work on adult services in 2006-7.
Williams admitted it would be a challenge for ADSS to reconcile internal change and effective lobbying and policy development, but said she thought the association was “up for that challenge”.
