Over 400 social workers referred to GSCC for alleged misconduct

More than 400 social workers have been referred to England’s social care regulator for alleged misconduct, it was revealed today at Community Care LIVE.CC Live logo article

Heather Wing, the General Social Care Council’s director of regulation, said that 161 of the referrals were assessed as not amounting to a complaint of misconduct.

However, 50 have been referred to the regulator’s preliminary proceedings committee and 191 remain under investigation.

The GSCC held its first conduct committee hearing last month. The three-day hearing in Newcastle took place in private after Yvonne Doyle, of Darlington, argued that a public hearing could damage her health. Wing said the committee would reveal its verdict next month.

Wing also revealed that the GSCC had received around 2,500 responses to its consultation on registering domiciliary and residential care workers, which closed last week.

The GSCC will now analyse the responses and publish a summary of outcomes in June.
