Self-advocacy campaigner Nicola Smith has been appointed to the first national director post for a person with learning difficulties.
The new national co-director for learning disabilities will work alongside national director Rob Greig in the salaried part-time job.
Smith, 43, founded a self-advocacy organisation in Sussex 10 years ago and currently works as a parttime trainer promoting awareness of learning difficulty issues.
She has also represented the south east on the National Forum for People with Learning Disabilities.
