Number of social workers increase

The numbers of social workers in local authorities are growing in the UK and they are becoming better qualified. These are the main findings from staffing returns from the UK’s four countries.

The returns also show that there has been a rise in social work assistants numbers and are becoming better qualified. Women still make up more three-quarters of social services staff in the UK.
