STAR RATING: 4/5
Support staff and carers of people with learning difficulties are constantly searching for local activities – often to be disappointed. Now you can create your own, writes Adam Koronka.
Mencap’s excellent series of five booklets in the DoingArts Series will equip you with all you need to know to either get started creating your own exciting opportunities for your clientele or help fine-tune your existing ones to a new level of quality and focus.
These invitingly presented guides have been commissioned by Mencap from experts from each respective subject. For example, Doing Photography explores the pros and cons of film or digital photography as well as suggesting aims, objectives and practical steps a facilitator can use to get started.
Doing Music places great emphasis on creating a congenial workspace to give the participants room to breathe and create.
Doing Drama provides all the practical tools needed to create exciting drama projects – for performance or recreation or personal growth purposes.
All the booklets provide enough information to be of use to a variety of groups and provide links so readers can find out more.
Adam Koronka is day service manager at The Gate, Yarrow Housing
