Nurseries payscales to be investigated

Nurseries will be investigated to make sure staff are being paid enough money, the government announced today.

At a third of nurseries visited by government inspectors, staff received less than the minimum wage, paymaster general Dawn Primarolo said.

The amount of people being paid less than the minimum wage is much higher than in other sectors, she added.

The government believes some employers misunderstand their obligations and its campaign will include education as well as enforcement.
