This government-established charity came into being in May 2006 in the wake of the Russell Commission on youth volunteering with a strong emphasis on the arts, media and the environment. It is funded to the tune of £10 million by corporate partners. The intention is to offer full- and part-time volunteering opportunities for young people. It wants to draw a million more 16-25 year olds into voluntary work and community action by 2010. It claims to “revolutionise” the field and to be “youth-led”: four young people sit on its trustee board and the website’s tone and language is aimed at its target group.
