Question from Community Care – Children’s rights officers and advocates put into action the views of young people

Children’s rights officers and advocates put into action the views of young people

By Steve Low

* What role does children’s rights play in your practice? How can you make sure that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is known and understood by your team and the children you work for?

* Can social workers be advocates? Given that advocacy services are independent of mainstream social care, to what extent can you advocate for children?

* How can you make sure that the things children and young people say make a lasting difference to the services that you offer?

GUIDE TIME FOR DISCUSSION: 20 minutes per question. Use of CROA’s Total Respect training exercises or Ready Steady Change materials from the Children’s Rights Alliance for England can make these questions into half a team training day.
