In the spotlight with Bob Holman

Bob Holman is an author and voluntary neighbourhood worker in Glasgow

What three words describe you?
Humerous, tenacious and ….  I know I can get up people’s noses – what’s the word for that?

If you were on a desert island and can take one person and one thing, who and what would it be?
Tony Blair and a table tennis table. I want to persuade him to devote the next few years to combatting poverty and inequality. I think we’d both enjoy table tennis and you can talk as you play.

Who inspires you?
Jesus Christ. I hope this doesn’t sound too pious but his life-style and values still grip me.

Where is your favourite place in the world?
At home with my wife Annette and family.

Which celebrity would play the role of you in a film of your life?
Frank Spencer (Michael Crawford)

What was the last CD you bought?
You joke. I am completely non-musical. Years ago I bought a tape by Vera Lynn.

What’s your favourite film?
Taste of Honey. Captures the spirit of the late 1950s. Also I saw it while courting Annette.

What’s the best present you’ve ever had?
A second hand Hornby train set. I was evacuated and my dad came at Christmas and gave it to me.

What would be your ideal job?
Neighbourhood worker in Easterhouse. I was lucky enough to have it.
