Services have weak links with schools

Many councils are missing opportunities for schools to work with other services to improve educational performance, according to research last week.

An Audit Commission study, which covered 14 local authorities, found that many council officers and members were unclear about how policies and services other than health and social care could support schools.

The report said that housing had only weak connections with schools, and schools and education services were rarely mentioned in housing policy documents.

Other services found not to be engaging with schools included culture and community safety.
