Corporate parenting fears to be tackled

The working group exploring the GP-style practices proposed in the children in care green paper will look at how council  accountability can be maintained, the government announced this week.

The extent to which the practices would undermine councils’ corporate parenting responsibility has been a concern for social care chiefs.

The group will also consider different models of practice, including private and non-profit organisations and other forms of social enterprise, the Department for Education and Skills said.

It also revealed the membership and terms of reference of the four groups, which will examine the future of the care population, best practice in schools, placement reform and practices.
