Patients given power to veto health records being held electronically

Electronic NHS patient records will be piloted from spring this year, health minister Lord Warner announced yesterday.

The government accepted the recommendations of a taskforce that included inviting patients to correct or amend records and offer explicit consent to share or opt out of sharing information.

The system is likely to be rolled out across England in 2008.
