Enthusiastic, impatient, irritating
If you were stuck on a desert island, and could take one person and one object, who and what would they be?
Jan, my wife, and a library.
Who inspires you and why?
The person, I don’t know who it is yet, who will lead Middlesbrough into the Champions League
What is your favourite place in the world?
Whitby, in North Yorkshire, where we now live.
Which celebrity would you want to play the role of you in a film about your life?
My (all female) press office have suggested, despite the fact that I’m 6ft 1 ins, Danny De Vito. That tells you a lot about my staff.
What was the last CD you bought?
Demonstrating my drift towards old age it was a Matt Monro CD, bought from one of our Barnardo’s shops.
What is your favourite film of all time?
The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and the wonderful (then) Shirley McLaine.
What is the best present you have ever been given?
When I was 50, I got 50 presents from my family which was pretty terrific.
If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?
The current one would take a lot of beating.
