Government pursued Mental Health Bill despite evidence against it, says leading campaigner

The Mental Health Bill, currently in the House of Lords, has been pursued without “proper reflection” and “despite all the evidence against it” just like the government’s support for the Iraq war, a service user told Community Care LIVE today.

The government should be concentrating on improving race equality and the safety of women in the mental health system, and the state of the acute sector, said mental health service user and Brunel University academic Peter Beresford.

Community Care blogger Beresford said the Mental Health Bill was undermining developments and diminishing achievements in the sector.
