Rainer seeks bids for mentoring scheme

Youth charity Rainer is seeking bids from agencies to help deliver a £1.5 million government-commissioned mentoring scheme for 600 looked-after children across England.

Under the scheme, the children will be matched with between 10 and 15 adult mentors by March 2008, and Rainer is looking for councils and other agencies to deliver mentoring services in their areas.

Chief executive Joyce Moseley said: “[The pilot] will look for the first time at how one-to-one mentoring can improve outcomes for this very vulnerable group of young people.”

Rainer, The Prince’s Trust and the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation have been commissioned to deliver the scheme by the Department for Education and Skills.

The deadline for the first round of applications is 20 March 2007. Download an application pack www.raineronline.org/dfeslacmentoring or email sophie.wellings@raineronline.org for more information.
