Money advice pilots effective finds Legal Services Research Centre study

Nearly one-third of people experiencing financial difficulties do not get the advice they need, according to a new study

Many people are unaware that a citizen’s advice bureau or a solicitor’s office could be within two miles of their home and are more likely to seek advice from creditors, family and friends, the Legal Services Research Centre found.

Outreach money advice pilots run by the Legal Services Commission in 25 deprived areas from locations including children’s centres and prisons were seen to be effective, the study Putting Advice Where Need Is, said.

Interviewees said the £6m pilots, started in 2005 and funded until 2008, were accessible, friendly, professional and trustworthy.
