Adam, 14, from Burnley, Lancashire, was found hanging in his room on 9 August 2004 at Hassockfield secure training centre, which is run by private company Serco.
Adam, who had a history of self-harm including cutting his wrists, died hours after being restrained by staff.
The inquest, which is scheduled to last three weeks, begins on Tuesday 1 May at Chester-le-street Magistrates Court in County Durham.
Carol Pounder, Adam’s mother, will be the first to give evidence.
