The Department for Communities and Local Government will monitor and respond to alleged breaches of the voluntary sector compact, under new government proposals.
A DCLG discussion paper on a new third sector strategy says the department aims to eliminate all breaches and proposes “proofing” all its policies to take into account their impact on the third sector.
The document criticises the “weak” engagement with the voluntary sector by some local authorities and the department pledges to work with the Office of the Third Sector to identify potential indicators within the new local government performance framework to help rectify the problem.
The DCLG also promises to issue statutory guidance to authorities on providing three-year funding to voluntary sector agencies.
