Wolverhampton Council’s director of adult and community services, Glen Mason, has been appointed as director of leadership and performance at the Department of Health’s social care directorate. Mason, who worked previously for the former Social Services Inspectorate, will work under director general David Behan.
Richard Corden has taken over as interim chief executive of the Commission for the Compact. Recruitment for a permanent chief executive will take place over the summer.
Director of education and children’s services at Slough Council Janet Tomlinson, Refugee Council chief executive Donna Covey and Local Government Association deputy chief executive John Ransford sat on the first meeting of the new Migration Impacts Forum this week. The forum, chaired jointly by immigration minister Liam Byrne and communities minister Phil Woolas, is considering the effect migration has on, among other issues, housing, education, health, and social care.
The National Care Forum, which represents not-for-profit social care providers in the UK, has elected Sharon Blackburn as vice-chair. Blackburn is a nurse by profession and executive director of Heart of England Housing and Care, based in Stratford upon Avon. She represents the NCF on several professional bodies, including at the Department of Health and on the National Council for Palliative Care’s End of Life group.
