The Association of Youth Offending Team managers has elected Mike Thomas as its chair. Thomas, who was previously deputy chair of the association, is head of West Sussex Youth Offending Service and succeeds Pauline Batstone, youth offending team manager for Bournemouth and Poole.

The National Care Association has announced Janet Rich as its first children’s services development officer. Rich has worked in residential child care over the last 17 years, working for the Bryn Melyn Group in North Wales.

Specialist residential and fostering care service Young Foundations has appointed a new director of social care. Brian Durham  joins Young Foundations, which is owned by independent health care provider Castlebeck, from his previous role as performance and change manager with North Yorkshire Council. Prior to that, Durham worked in County Durham as the county child protection manager and fostering and adoption manager.

Independent care home group Caring Homes has appointed Andy Fairchild as chief operating officer. Fairchild will be responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of the business, including Caring Homes and Consensus. Before joining, he held corporate positions with major companies including Axa plc, where he was also chief operating officer.
