New learning disability award launched

A new qualification has been launched for staff working in the learning disability sector. The Learning Disability Induction Award has been created especially for the sector and will be implemented by Skills for Care, the Valuing People Support Programme, Skills for Health and the Children’s Workforce Development Council.

Along with the new award Skills for Care is consulting on knowledge sets for the sector, which should be published in the autumn to help create further awards and inform employers’ training.

Andrea Rowe, chief executive officer of skills for care, said: “It is important that we have taken on board what people who work in the sector – and those who use services – have to say about what is needed to improve what is currently on offer in terms of learning and skills.”
