Care services minister Ivan Lewis will announce plans to develop a national dementia strategy this morning.
The promise answers calls by the Alzheimer’s Society and other campaigners to make dementia a national priority to tackle inadequacies in current services and deal with a massive increase in demand over the next decades.
A National Audit Office report, published in July, and February’s Dementia UK study, commissioned by the Alzheimer’s Society, both made fundamental criticisms of the state of dementia care and its readiness to tackle future need.
