The documentary, which will be shown at 9pm on ITV tonight, shows Malcolm’s health deteriorate after he is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and explore their relationship leading up to Malcolm’s death.

The programme has caused quite a stir in the press. If you want to send in your reviews and comments, email clare.jerrom@rbi.co.uk .

Last night, there a hard hitting Channel 4 drama was screened – Richard is my boyfriend.

The drama tackles the taboo subject of sex and relationships between a young woman with learning disabilities and her Down’s Syndrome boyfriend.

Dame Jo Williams, chief executive of Mencap, said: “We would like to congratulate the producers of the programme – the film deals with an ethical dilemma in a thought provoking and well balanced way. People with a learning disability have the same rights as everyone else and these rights must be upheld.”
