What’s your first memory?
A little boy biting the fingers off Nicholas Naughty (my bendy rabbit) when I was in hospital – it taught me the importance of having control in life.

Which three words best describe you?
I’ve been called an influential gadfly and passionate

What’s been your best job?
A one year Harkness Fellowship working with disability activists in the US – it gave me space and stimulus to plan work on disability equality that I’ve put into practice since, with colleagues at Disability Rights Commission and RADAR

If you were stuck on a desert island and you could take one person and one object with you who and what would they be?
My partner and a solar powered mobile phone – I’m an extrovert and would want to communicate

Who inspires you and why?
Desmond Tutu for ethical, risk-taking leadership

Where is your favourite place?
The Thames – all of it – I’m currently walking its length with friends

Which celebrity would you want to play you in a film?
Judi Dench

What was the last CD you bought?
Picture Book by Simply Red (to replace the vinyl)

What are you reading?
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
