On the move

Richard Brook last week became chief executive of the new Office of the Public Guardian, the agency which supports and promotes decision-making for those who lack capacity or would like to plan for their future within the framework of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Brook was formerly chief executive of mental health charity Mind.

The NHS chief executive David Nicholson has appointed Professor Sir Bruce Keogh as the new NHS medical director. Keogh, a world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, will now take on the role of championing clinical engagement throughout the service and leading the work of the National Clinical Directors, or “tsars”, as part of the NHS Leadership Team. He will also act as a deputy chief medical officer.

Bill Freeman has joined the NAVCA, the national voice of the local voluntary and community sector infrastructure in England, as director of development. He replaces Dianne Leyland, who has left to study physiotherapy. Freeman was formerly director of The Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance, a coalition of health charities, and has held similar senior leadership roles in a number of national umbrella organisations, including the British Youth Council and the National Union of Students.
