A General Social Care Council conduct committee has admonished a Leeds social worker for forming an inappropriate relationship with a service user. The caution will stay on Andrew Atkins’ record on the GSCC register for nine months.
The committee found that the relationship had put both Atkins and the service user at unnecessary risk, and judged that his failure to immediately inform his employer and Leeds community mental health service also constituted misconduct.
However, in deciding on his punishment, it took into account that there was no harm to or exploitation of the service user, his exemplary record to date and his expressions of regret.
