YoungMinds: No support for most young people on waiting lists

Three-quarters of young people with mental health problems were offered no support when waiting for treatment, a YoungMinds poll revealed today.

The charity described the results as “shocking”, citing government figures showing that 4,842 young people with mental health problems waited more than 13 weeks for treatment last year.

The poll also found that:-

  • Doctors failed to explain the side effects of treatment to half of the 100 young people surveyed.
  • Three-quarters did not know or were unsure what to do if they were unhappy with their treatment.

The charity is launching a new website, Myheadhurts.com, to provide advice and information to young people suffering from mental health problems, in an initiative funded by Comic Relief.
