Social worker removed from register after ignoring 90 referrals

A social worker who put children at risk by failing to allocate 90 cases has been removed from the social care register.

Joy Amelia Coles, 55, was a team manager at Leicester Council between November 2001 and November 2005 at the time.

In one case, she took no action about allegations of physical abuse against children in a family, who were later placed on the child protection register. The committee heard that Coles misled her managers about the number of unallocated cases and she backdated closing dates of other cases.

A General Social Care Council committee, which heard the case this week, said her persistent inaction and failures placed children at the risk of harm.
