Expressions of interest for the learning disabilities carers’ breaks scheme

The London Borough of Lambeth is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified organisation to provide a Carers’ Breaks Scheme for the Lambeth Learning Disabilities Partnership.

The Carers’ Breaks Scheme is a service which provides short breaks for family carers of adults with learning disabilities by supporting small groups of service users to go on staffed short holidays to pre-arranged venues around the country. This gives the carer needed respite, whilst ensuring an enjoyable and safe holiday for their family member.

Additional support to carers is also offered in the form of day outings and support sessions/carer meetings throughout the year. Providers will be independently responsible for the managing, arranging and staffing of the holidays, outings and support sessions. It is anticipated that the contract will be let for an initial period of 3 years commencing 1st April 2010 with an option to extend for up to an additional 1 year subject to performance. A successful service provider must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • extensive previous experience of providing short breaks to family carers and adults with learning disabilities
  • able to evidence recent successful standards inspection
  • be a Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) registered organisation.
