Workers could lose jobs over child sex abuse

Three council workers could lose their jobs after their mistakes led to a disturbed teenager being placed with a family with young children, who he sexually abused.

The 19-year-old was jailed indefinitely in February after he admitted raping the two children. A report published yesterday said that staff concentrated on the teenager’s own vulnerability and not the risks that he posed.

Grandparents seek contact after separation

Almost half of grandparents lose all contact with their grandchildren after a family separation or divorce, according to a new report.

It found that 42 per cent never see their grandchildren again after the break-up. Even more — 67 per cent — are prevented from providing any sort of childcare or taking their grandchildren on outings, even when they had done so regularly in the past.
