Expressions of Interest

Aiming High For Disabled Children

Expressions of interest are sought from suitable organisations able to provide short breaks for all or part of the above period, for children aged 0-19, with a wide range of physical and learning difficulties and disabilities.

Short Breaks includes day, evening, overnight and weekend activities that provide the child with access to positive opportunities, and their primary carer with a break. Short Breaks can take place in a community setting, the child’s own home, the home of an approved carer, a residential setting, or holiday setting and can range from an inclusive approach in a universal setting to dedicated specialist provision. They can last from just a few hours to a few days. Sheffield priorities include (but not exclusively) children and young people:

  • With Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Severe Learning Difficulties
  • With complex health care needs
  • Aged 11+ with moving/handling needs
  • With challenging behaviour associated with other disabilities e.g. SLD
  • Aged 14+

Along with a commitment to ensuring that disabled children/young people from Sheffield’s BME communities access the services available.

This open tender will adopt an outcomes based approach. In order to continuously develop and increase our short breaks provision both in terms of volume and range we are seeking expressions of interest for two categories:

CATEGORY 1: School Holiday Small Grants – Short Breaks Programme covering Christmas 2009 and February 2010 school holidays.

CATEGORY 2: A range of innovative short breaks provision for children, young people and their carers/families.

A limited number of providers will be selected from organisations meeting the requirements of service delivery, achieving outcomes, quality, price and consideration of sustainability.

Organisations new to the provision of Services to Children and Young People’s Directorate along with any Organisations who already provide complimentary services are encouraged to apply.

Interested parties should apply for the Market Brief and Pre qualification questionnaire in writing before 25 September 2009.
