Workload set to rise for Doncaster children’s social workers

Doncaster social workers could face extra work after the council decided to bring care leaver support in-house.

For the past 15 years, children’s charity Barnardo’s has provided this service for Doncaster Council.

However, Steve Oversby, acting director of Barnardo’s Yorkshire, confirmed that Doncaster, as part of its review of children’s services provision, “wishes to take this service back in house in order to link it with a broader approach to its service provision for children in care”.

He added: “We fully understand this decision given the issues that Doncaster presently faces. We will work with Doncaster to ensure that there is a smooth transfer of this service so that service to users suffer the least disruption.”

Doncaster Council and the Doncaster branch of Unison have not been available for comment.
